HOLIDAY CALLS 2014-2015
Because of work hour changes, interns have to work a 12 hour shifts (in general, one minor holiday night, one minor holiday day, one major holiday night, and/or one major holiday night).
WARNING: If you are on an inpatient rotation during a holiday month, you will likely have to round on at least one of the holidays that block. If you are on an outpatient rotation, and don't request vacation time, you might be scheduled for short call the day before a vacation (ie: have to work Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 5-8pm). The days before holidays also don't count as vacation.
The county holidays are as follows:
MAJOR:
Thanksgiving Day Nov 27th (Thurs)
Day after Thanksgiving Nov 28th (Fri)
Christmas Day Dec 25th (Thurs)
New Years Day Jan 1st (Thurs)
MINOR:
Independence Day July 4th (Fri.)
Labor Day Sept 1st (Mon.)
Veterens Day Nov. 11th (Tues.)
MLK Day Jan 19th (Mon)
Presidents Day Feb 16th (Mon)
Memorial Day May 25th (Mon)
*The day or weekends before the holidays are NOT considered holidays and are normal work days (i.e. X-mas Eve is NOT a holiday day, it is a normal work day and the same is true for New Year's Eve).
